ThankView was created to help you build stronger connections with your donors through meaningful, personalized video. But we know that writing campaign messaging from scratch can slow you down! That’s why we introduced the AI Message Drafting tool–designed to jumpstart your campaign messaging while leaving plenty of room for personal touches.
This tool takes the guesswork out of writing by generating tailored content based on your customized prompt. Whether you’re drafting a campaign’s email or landing page message, AI Message Drafting is here to help.
Below, you’ll find best practices and tips to make the most of this feature! For step-by-step instructions on how to use it, check out our All About: ThankView’s AI Message Drafting Tool article.
Note: The AI Message Drafting tool uses a large language model (LLM) from OpenAI. Your data is never used to train the model, and any information processed is purged within 30 days. Additionally, since the tool does not store prompt inputs, your data is removed from the ThankView platform after submission.
Getting Started: AI Message Drafting Tool Capabilities
What Can AI Message Drafting Do?
The AI Message Drafting tool is designed to handle a range of prompts, making your campaign messaging as personalized and dynamic as you need it to be! Here’s what to keep in mind as you get started:
- Dynamic Content: Use prompts to generate a range of messaging types, from career congratulations and birthday best wishes to holiday greetings!
- Thematic References: Include brand-specific elements like school colors, slogans, or other cultural references to make your messaging resonate.
- Merge Fields for Personalization: Specify merge fields to personalize messages with recipient-specific details. If incorporated, just double-check to ensure accuracy and edit where needed!
- Custom Content Length and Structure: Request messages of varying lengths–short, medium, or long–or ask for specific formats like bullet points or even a series of haikus!
- Tone and Audience Adaptability: Generate drafts tailored to your preferred tone (e.g., formal, friendly, persuasive) and audience. Whether it’s a thank-you from a student or a message from Mickey Mouse, this tool has you covered!
- Multilingual Support: Create messages in multiple languages to connect with a diverse donor base.
What Can’t AI Message Drafting Do?
While the tool is a powerful resource, it has some boundaries to ensure that messages remain polite and professional, and that the tool is easy to use. Here are a few things AI Message Drafting is not designed to do:
- No Offensive Content: The tool won’t generate inappropriate or offensive responses.
- No Recent News: It cannot produce messaging based on breaking news or current events.
- Media and Web Limitations: AI Message Drafting is text-based, so it cannot analyze videos, images, or browse the web. However, you can describe visual content if you want the tool to generate related messaging.
- Session Independence: Each use of AI Message Drafting is a standalone session. The tool does not store any data or retain memory of past prompts.
Now that you are familiar with the tool’s capabilities, let’s take a look at some prompt examples!
Crafting Effective Email Message Prompts
Using clear and specific prompts will yield best results for your email messages. Below are some best practices and example prompts to help get you started!
Best Practices
- Add Context: Specify the audience and purpose. For example, instead of “Write a thank-you email,” try: “Write a thank-you email from the university president to a major donor, showing appreciation for a recent donation.”
- Define Length: Keep email messages short and sweet–your ThankView video and landing page can do the heavy lifting! Aim for around 150 characters, and be sure to include word or character limits in your prompt.
- Use Roles for Clarity: Add roles like “as a hospital foundation representative” or “as a scholarship recipient” to guide tone and perspective.
- Leverage Existing Content for Tone: Provide a recent message, script, or text you’ve written and ask the tool to match its tone or style. For example, “Using this content, draft a campus tour invite in the same tone and style.”
Example Prompts
Donor Thank-You
- Basic: "Craft a thank-you email to a donor."
- Enhanced: "As a scholarship recipient, craft a heartfelt thank-you email to a donor that highlights the impact of their gift. Keep it under 150 characters."

Event Invitation

- Enhanced: "Draft a short email inviting donors to an upcoming virtual campus tour hosted by a student ambassador. Include a call to action to register for the event and keep the length under 175 characters."
Holiday Greeting
- Basic: "Write a holiday greeting for donors."
- Enhanced: "Draft a warm holiday email to donors from a hospital CEO, thanking them for their support this year and sharing a link to a video celebrating milestones achieved together. Limit the message to 250 characters or less."
Crafting Effective Landing Page Prompts
Landing page descriptions provide space to share additional details with your recipients. Use this opportunity to reiterate key points from your ThankView video, encourage your audience to engage with the call-to-action (CTA) button, and add relevant hyperlinks. Tailor your prompts to ensure clear and targeted messaging!
Best Practices
- Set Goals and Intent: Clearly indicate what you want the audience to do, like “make a gift,” “learn more about this project,” or “see how your donation is making a difference.”
- Add Elements Needed in Response: Include key details like your campaign’s CTA, impact highlights, or additional links to resources.
- Specify Tone and Style: Request a tone that suits your audience, such as “friendly,” “inspirational,” or “informative.”
