The Steps of a Video Sequence

When building a ThankView campaign, the Videos step is a little different from the others—it has its own set of steps called video sequencing! Video sequencing is a four-part process that links components together to create your campaign’s ThankView video. These components include:

  1. Intro Theme
  2. Recordings
  3. Outro
  4. + Add-Ons

Below, we’ll take a closer look at each of these steps to help you build a polished video sequence. Let’s jump in!

💡 Note: For a video demo of how to build a video sequence, watch our Campaigns Part V: Creating Your Video Sequence tutorial.

Selecting an Intro Theme

Adding an intro theme to your ThankView video is an optional but fun way to set the tone with music, photos, or your organization's branding. You can choose from our extensive library of templates to reflect the occasion and make your ThankViews even more engaging, and can customize your selection for an extra-personalized touch.

Step 1. Toggle Enable Intro

If you want to include an intro theme in your video sequence, toggle on Enable Intro in the upper-left corner of the step.

Step 2. Select Intro Template

Next, use the dropdowns on the left-hand side of the screen to select a customizable template for your intro.

Step 3. Customize Intro Theme and Save

Once a template is chosen, you’re ready to customize your theme! Depending on the chosen template, customization options include:

  • Adding your own imagery
  • Adjusting text and font selection
  • Changing background color
  • Adding music (Premium and Enterprise accounts can even add custom music, like a fight song!)

Click Save once your intro is customized, then Next Step to proceed.

💡 Note: You can save a customized theme by checking the Save as Template box and then adding an Intro Name. This will save your template under the Your Intro Templates dropdown for your team to reuse in any future campaign.

Set an Intro Theme Default

You have the option to set a saved intro theme as a campaign default! To do so, open the My Portal page in your ThankView Settings. Scroll down to the Campaign Defaults section, and use the Video Intro dropdown to select your desired theme.

Adding Video Recordings

This part of the video sequence is where you can add personalized videos for each recipient or a segmented group, or send a single video to all recipients.

Attaching a video to each recipient of your ThankView campaign is required for sending them the campaign. Below, we will walk through how to record and edit videos for your campaign.

💡 Note: If you don’t have your campaign’s recipients list ready yet, don’t fret! You can still explore the Recordings step and get a feel for the process. If you click into this step before adding recipients to your campaign, you’ll be prompted to test it out by sending yourself a ThankView. This is a great way to practice and see how your video will look before adding recipients and sending your campaign!

Step 1. Select Recipient(s)

Under Recipients on the left-hand side of the page, choose the recipient(s) who need a video:

  • To select a single recipient or a group of recipients, click the checkbox to the left of their name(s).
  • To select all recipients, click the Select All checkbox at the top of the Recipients list.

If you’d like to reveal specific recipient details to reference during your recording, click Expand at the top of the Recipients list and use the dropdown beneath to choose a field. For example, select Last Donation from the dropdown to reveal every recipient’s last donation amount that you can then easily reference in your video.

Step 2. Click Webcam and Check Video Settings

After selecting the recipient(s), you can choose from three ways to attach a video:

  1. Webcam: Use your webcam to record a fresh, personalized video.
  2. Upload: Upload a pre-recorded video file from your computer.
  3. Library: Select a previously-recorded or uploaded video from your portal’s Video Library.

Select the Webcam option.

In the upper-right corner of your recording box, you’ll find four tools to help you create a great recording:

  1. Magic Wand: Choose an alternative background option. You can choose from Blur My Background or Choose Virtual Background. The latter allows you to upload an image in .jpg or .png and choose its resolution.
  2. Settings Gear: Adjust the resolution of your video. The default resolution is 1080p.
  3. Camera: Choose your preferred camera. This option is helpful if you plan to record with an external webcam.
  4. Microphone: Select your preferred microphone. This could be your computer’s built-in microphone or an external mic.

Step 3. Add Campaign Script (Optional)

You also have the option to toggle on a campaign script that will appear as an overlay on the recording screen for teleprompter-style recording! To use this feature, click Toggle Script in the bottom-left of the recording area and type or paste your script into the text box.

Use the resize handle at the bottom-right corner of the text box to adjust its size and position. If your script exceeds the viewable space in the text box, you can scroll through the box while recording so you don’t miss a beat.

💡 Note:

  • When you add a campaign script, the same script appears for all recipients. If you need personalized scripts for each recipient, we recommend recording for recipients individually so you can customize the script on a video-by-video basis.
  • The Toggle Script option does not impact Tasks or Video Request campaigns. These have their own Toggle Instructions feature, allowing recorders to view recording instructions instead of adding their own script.

Step 4. Record Video

When you’re ready, click Start Recording in the bottom-right of the recording area and begin after a brief countdown! If needed, use the Start Over button to redo your video and click Stop Recording to finish.

Immediately after recording, a Processing Video message will appear. Processing time varies depending on the video’s length.

Step 5. Edit Recording

When processing completes, you can make minor adjustments to your recording with our in-app editing tools

  • Change Video: Replace the recipient’s recording.
  • Closed Captions: Add closed captions.
  • Change Thumbnail: Choose which frame of your video will represent the recording.
  • Trim Video: Trim the beginning or end of your recording.
  • Rotate Video: Rotate your recording by 90, 180, or 270 degrees.
  • Crop Video: Remove the black bars from your video for a cleaner feel.

Once recorded, green checkmarks appear next to all recipients with a video to ensure you won’t accidentally miss anyone! Click Next Step to move to the Outro portion of your video sequence.

Selecting an Outro

Video outros are another optional element that you can use to leave recipients with a lasting impression of your organization’s branding!

Step 1. Toggle Enable Outro

If you want to include an outro in your video sequence, toggle on Enable Outro in the upper-left corner of the step.

Step 2. Select Outro Template and Save

Next, use the dropdowns on the left-hand side of the screen to either create a new outro or select an existing outro template.

💡 Note: You can save a newly-created outro by checking the Save as Template box and then adding an Outro Name. This will save your template under the Your Outro Templates dropdown for your team to reuse in any future campaign.

Click Save after choosing an outro, then Next Step in the lower-right to proceed to your campaign’s Sends step or + Add-Ons in the upper-right if you plan to include an add-on element (which we’ll cover next!).

Set an Outro Default

You have the option to set a saved outro as a campaign default! To do so, open the My Portal page in your ThankView Settings. Scroll down to the Campaign Defaults section, and use the Video Outro dropdown to select your desired outro.

Using Add-Ons

We have two optional add-ons available to further enhance your video sequence:

  1. Add-On Video: A general video that is appended to the end of every recipient’s personalized video.
  2. Overlays: Banners or frames that lay on top of your recorded video elements.

Let’s take a closer look at how to use both options.

Step 1. Include an Add-On Video

To include an add-on video, select Add-On Video from the + Add-Ons dropdown. You have the same three video attachment options as your Recordings step:

  1. Webcam
  2. Upload
  3. Library

After recording or adding an existing video, you can make minor edits using the same tools reviewed earlier.

Once added to your sequence, an Add-On Video step is tracked at the top of the video sequence components between Recordings and Outro

💡 Note: Again, add-on videos are optional videos attached to the end of each recipient’s personalized recording. They offer an opportunity to include more generic video content that is applicable to everyone, like showing off renovation progress or sharing student testimonials!

Step 2: Include an Overlay

To include an overlay, select Overlays from the + Add-Ons dropdown and toggle on Enable Overlay in the upper-left corner of the step.

Similarly to intros and outros, use the dropdowns on the left-hand side of the screen to choose a banner or frame from various themes! Click Save in the lower-right after selecting an overlay.

💡Note: Premium and Enterprise accounts may request bespoke overlays from our designers.

Once added to your sequence, a Video Overlay step is tracked at the top of the video sequence components after Outro

💡 Note: If included, overlays appear on top of the recorded segments of your video sequence (i.e., Recordings and Add-On Video [if one is added]).

Previewing Your Video Sequence

You can preview your video sequence at any point during the sequencing process to make sure it looks exactly like you want! To do so, click the Preview Sequence button that appears at the bottom-right of every step. Yellow dots along the preview’s progress bar indicate the starting point of each sequence component (i.e., Intro, Recordings, Add-On Video, Outro).
