All About: Closed Captions
We strongly recommend making closed captions a regular part of your campaign-building efforts! Creating accessible content is always a win, and we’ve made it super simple for you and your team to support communities that can benefit from it.
There are three ways that you can add captions:
- Enabling free auto-captioning
- Purchasing paid human captioning
- Uploading your own caption files
Adding Captions
Free Automatic Captioning
All you have to do in enable this feature in your settings, and then every subsequent video will be automatically captioned! These captions are 80% accurate and will have, at most, a two-hour turnaround time. To enable auto-captioning, make sure you’re an admin and follow these steps:
- Navigate to Settings > Video Captions
- Under the section titled AI-Generated Video Captions, toggle on the Yes option
- All videos recorded moving forward will have AI captions generated
Note: any videos recorded prior to the enabling of this feature will need to individually have captions generated. You can do this while viewing a video preview in either Campaigns or in your Video Library - press the CC icon in the toolbar, select Get Captions, and choose the Free Automated Captioning Option.
Paid Human Captioning
Human captions are a great option if you want the highest degree of accuracy and less edits later. This type of captioning costs $1.25 for the first minute of video and is then prorated by seconds after that, but the same captioned video can be sent to as many recipients as you’d like. Please allow up to 24 hours for these captions to process.
- Click the CC icon at the bottom of your video preview (in the edit view of your Video Library or the Videos section of a campaign)
- Click Get Captions, then select Paid Human Captioning
- Click Add $50 to Balance and add your credit card information
- You'll be notified once the closed captioning is complete
Upload Captions
- Click the Captions icon at the bottom of the video (in your Video Library or the Videos section of your campaign) to begin.
- Click Select File to upload a .vtt or.srt caption file.
- Allow time for processing.
Editing Captions
You can edit captions via the Video Library or the Videos section within a campaign.
Within a Campaign
- Go to your campaign > Videos > Recordings.
- Select which recipient's video you would like to edit, or check Select All.
- Click the CC icon at the bottom of the video, then select Edit Closed Captions.
- Use the Edit Captions pop-up to edit the captions in small segments.
Within the Video Library
- Go to the Video Library and locate your video.
- Click the Edit icon > CC icon > Edit Closed Captions.
- Use the Edit Captions pop-up to edit the captions in small segments.
Edit Caption Timing
When editing captions, you can only edit the text. If you'd like to adjust the timing of the captions, download the captions file from ThankView, edit the timestamps in a text editor, and re-upload the edited caption file.
Downloading Captions
- Go to the Video Library and locate your video.
- Click the Edit icon > CC icon > Download Captions.
The format is webVTT, but if you'd like a different format, please reach out to your Customer Success Representative.
Translating Captions
ThankView currently does not have the functionality of translating your closed captions into other languages directly. However, when editing your captions, you may insert the segments of text into a translation software, like Google Translate, and generate translated captions that way.
If you have additional questions, please reach out to your Customer Success Representative or support@thankview.com.
